SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching)
Develop the knowledge, skills and abilities to support a qualified swimming teacher in the delivery of a planned learn to swim session, via this fun and engaging 4 day course.
Description
The Swim England Qualifications Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) course provides individuals with the essential knowledge and skills needed to assist a qualified Swimming Teacher in delivering high quality inclusive swimming lessons in a range of settings, for example at a leisure centre, swim school or club learn to swim programme.
Assessment
This course has a number of learning outcomes, assessment criteria and assessment requirements all of which have to be achieved in order to complete the qualification. Assessment is made up of a number of activities, which are assessed by the course tutor/assessor, that include:
- Theory Questions
- Review Record
Learners are also assessed assisting during the delivery of swimming lessons.
Course Content
The course is delivered through a mixture of classroom and practical poolside learning. You will participate in a range of 30-minute swimming lessons to gain hands on practical experience as an assistant.
You will learn about:
- The legal aspects of assisting in swimming lessons
- The responsibilities of a Swimming Assistant
- The swimming pathway, fundamental movement, core aquatic skills and component parts of strokes
- Scientific principles of swimming
- What makes up a lesson plan, equipment and communications skills
- How to identify anxiety and use of motivational techniques
- The type of assistance you can provide
Please be aware, throughout the duration of the course you will be allocated homework by your Course Tutor that must ‘Meet the Standard’ before the end of the course. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
- 17 x Theory Questions
- 1x Review Record
Important Information
Please be aware that attending a Swim England Qualifications course does not guarantee you a qualification. The learner must successfully 'meet the standard' for all assessment requirements/activities. Additional fees may be incurred if the learner requires additional training or reassessment beyond the scheduled course dates. Learners have 12 months from the start date of the course to complete the full qualification.
Prerequisites
Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old at the start of the course and will be required to attend 100% of the course.
