Learn to Swim Helper

Develop the basic knowledge, skills and understanding needed to effectively help qualified swimming teachers within swimming lessons, via this one day workshop.

Description

This workshop is aimed at anyone aged 14 and upwards who wants to gain experience and/or volunteer in swimming lessons. It is perfect for those wishing to pursue a career in swimming teaching ready to start their SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification once they turn 16.

Prerequisites

Candidates must be a minimum of 14 years old at the start of the workshop and will be required to attend 100% of the workshop.

Course Content

The workshop is delivered through a mixture of classroom and practical poolside learning. You will also participate in a 30-minute swimming lessons to gain hands on practical experience as a helper.

You will learn about:

  • The roles and responsibilities of a swimming lesson helper
  • The frameworks within the Learn to Swim Programme
  • The Core Aquatic Skills and Swimming Strokes
  • The key components of a swimming lesson
  • Appropriate pool safety when helping in swimming lessons
  • Effective communication skills when helping in swimming lessons

Assessment

The workshop includes interactive activities and knowledge checks throughout. Learners will fully complete a workbook and be observed helping swimming lessons.
