Combined SEQ Level 1 & Level 2

Description
The Swim England Qualifications Combined Level 1 Swimming Assistant and Level 2 Swimming Teacher Course equips you with the skills to independently plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate swimming lessons. Ideal for those who already have experience in an aquatics environment, the course gives individuals the skills and confidence to provide quality, inclusive, and fun swimming lessons.
Prerequisites
Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old at the start of the course and will be required to attend 100% of the course.
Due to the intense nature of combined courses, those looking to enrol on such a course should ensure they are prepared by:
- Gaining experience of supporting swimming lessons or working within an aquatics environment
- Ensuring you have technical knowledge of swimming
- Having an understanding of Stages 1-7 of the Swim England Learn to Swim framework
- Having an understanding of the key legal areas swimming teachers must adhere to
- Having a basic understanding of lesson planning
Course Content
The course is delivered through a mixture of classroom and practical poolside learning. You will participate in at least six 30-minute swimming lessons to gain hands on practical experience.
You will learn about:
- The responsibilities and role of a swimming assistant and a swimming teacher
- How the scientific principles of swimming impact on development
- How to develop core aquatic skills and the four strokes
- How to identify and correct common swimming faults
- How to use a variety of teaching techniques and equipment to suit different needs
- How to plan and deliver inclusive lessons for different levels of ability, including adaptations for swimmers with special educational needs and disabilities
- Key teaching and management skills including class management and assessment, organisational skills, behaviour management, communication skills, and teaching methods
- National curriculum swimming lessons and how they differ from learn to swim lessons
Please be aware, throughout the duration of the course you will be allocated homework by your Course Tutor that must ‘Meet the Standard’ before the end of the course. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
- 30x Theory Questions (17 for Level 1 & 13 for Level 2)
- 1x Review Record
- 2x Overview of a Series of Lessons
- 6x Lesson plans
- 1x Self Evaluation
- 1x Professional Development Plan
Assessment
This course has a number of learning outcomes, assessment criteria and assessment requirements all of which have to be achieved in order to complete the qualification. Assessment is made up of a number of activities, which are assessed by the course tutor/assessor, that include:
- Theory Questions
- Review Record
- Overview of a Series of Lessons
- Lesson plans
- Self Evaluation
- Professional Development Plan
Learners are also assessed during practical delivery of swimming lessons.
Important Information
Please be aware that attending a Swim England Qualifications course does not guarantee you a qualification. The learner must successfully 'meet the standard' for all assessment requirements/activities. Additional fees may be incurred if the learner requires additional training or reassessment beyond the scheduled course dates. Learners have 12 months from the start date of the course to complete the full qualification.
