SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming

The Swim England Qualifications Level 2 Teaching Swimmingcourse provides individuals with the knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate swimming lessons independently. It also gives individuals the skills and confidence to provide quality, inclusive and fun swimming lessons.

Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old at the start of the course and will be required to attend 100% of the course. Candidates must also hold a SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) or Swim England/ASA equivalent. If you are unsure that your qualification meets the prerequisites, please contact info@train2.org prior to booking.

The course is delivered through a mixture of classroom and practical poolside learning. You will participate in at least six 30-minute swimming lessons to gain hands on practical experience.

You will learn about:

• The responsibilities and role of a swimming teacher
• How the scientific principles of swimming impact on development
• How to develop core aquatic skills and the four strokes
• How to identify and correct common swimming faults
• How to use a variety of teaching techniques and equipment to suit different needs
• How to plan and deliver inclusive lessons for different levels of ability, including adaptations for swimmers with special educational needs and disabilities
• Key teaching and management skills including class management and assessment, organisational skills, behaviour management, communication skills, and teaching methods
• National curriculum swimming lessons and how they differ from learn to swim lessons

Please be aware, throughout the duration of the course you will be allocated homework by your Course Tutor that must ‘Meet the Standard’ before the end of the course. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

• 13 x Theoretical Questions
• 2 x Overview of a Series of Lessons
• 6 x Lesson plans
• 1 x Self Evaluation
• 1 x Professional Development Plan

This course has a number of learning outcomes, assessment criteria and assessment requirements all of which have to be achieved in order to complete the qualification. Assessment is made up of a number of activities, which are assessed by the course tutor/assessor, that include:

• Theory Questions
• Overview of a Series of Lessons
• Lesson Plans
• Self Evaluation
• Professional Development Plan

Learners are also assessed by the course tutor during the delivery of swimming lessons.

Please be aware that attending a Swim England Qualifications course does not guarantee you a qualification. The learner must successfully 'meet the standard' for all assessment requirements/activities. Additional fees may be incurred if the learner requires additional training or reassessment beyond the scheduled course dates. Learners have 12 months from the start date of the course to complete the full qualification.
