Combined Emergency Paediatric & Emergency First Aid at Work
A 1 day course covering a comprehensive range of CPR and first aid skills, for adults and children.
Description
A safe working environment is a fundamental right for all workers and a responsibility of all employers. This one day Combined Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course covers a range of essential CPR and first aid skills for adults and children, equipping employers and their staff with the knowledge and abilities to minimise risks and hazards in the workplace.
The one day combined EPFA and EFAW course is endorsed by CIMSPA (both qualifications), ensuring that the training has been quality assured by CIMSPA and delivered by a CIMSPA education partner. Additionally, the course aligns with the standards set forth by the First Aid Awarding Organisation Forum (FAAOF).
Prerequisites
Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old at the time of taking the assessment and attend 100% of the course. No prior first aid knowledge is required. Employers should consider the following when selecting individuals to attend this training:
- Reliability, disposition and communication skills
- Aptitude and ability to absorb new knowledge and learn new skills
- Ability to cope with stressful and physically demanding emergency procedures
- Normal duties are such that they may be left to go immediately and rapidly to an emergency
Course Content
This one day course comprehensive course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills for both adults and children, including:
- Understanding the role of the first aider and paediatric first aider.
- How to manage and provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally (adult, child and infant).
- How to manage and provide first aid to an infant, child or adult suffering from shock.
- How to assess an incident and emergency situation and act safely and effectively.
- How to recognise and provide first aid for an infant, child or adult with a foreign body airway obstruction (choking).
- How to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding.
- How to handle a casualty with a minor injury.
- How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally.
Assessment
The course comprises practical work and theoretical classroom work, as well as a practical assessment on CPR and first aid. Candidates must attend 100% of the course and successfully pass all assessment criteria. Upon completion, candidates will be awarded 2 qualifications:
- RLSS UK Qualifications Level 3 Emergency Paediatric First Aid
- RLSS UK Qualifications Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work
Validity & Renewal
Upon completion, candidates will be awarded 2 qualifications:
- RLSS UK Qualifications Level 3 Emergency Paediatric First Aid
- RLSS UK Qualifications Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work
Both qualifications are valid for 3 years. In order to re-qualify learners must be assessed against all learning outcomes and assessment criteria in the unit. This will be the same as the initial course.

Please be aware that attending a First Aid course does not guarantee you a qualification; this will be dependant on the performance and the abilities of the candidate during the final theory and practical assessments.
