Description

This course is the most comprehensive first aid course for the workplace. It covers a wide range of CPR and first aid skills and equips first aiders with the ability to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illnesses. The course is suitable for all industries and enables employers to meet HSE requirements. On completion, candidates receive an RLSS UK Qualifications Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (FAW), which is valid for 3 years. The First Aid at Work qualification is regulated by Ofqual in England, Qualifications Wales in Wales and CCEA Regulation (Northern Ireland). It is endorsed by CIMSPA and the First Aid Awarding Organisation Forum.

Prerequisites

Candidates must be a minimum of 16-years-old at the time of taking the assessment and attend 100% of the course. No prior first aid knowledge is required. Employers should consider the following when selecting individuals to attend this training:

  • Reliability, disposition and communication skills
  • Aptitude and ability to absorb new knowledge and learn new skills
  • Ability to cope with stressful and physically demanding emergency procedures
  • Normal duties are such that they may be left to go immediately and rapidly to an emergency

Course Content

This three day comprehensive course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills, providing you with the skills to ensure a safe working environment, including:

  • Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider
  • How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
  • How to manage a casualty who is in shock
  • How to assess an incident
  • How to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
  • How to manage a casualty with a minor injury
  • How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
  • How to manage a casualty with external bleeding
  • How to conduct a secondary survey
  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
  • How to provide first aid to a casualty with a suspected major illness
  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries
  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis

Assessment

Candidates are continuously assessed throughout the course. In order to successfully pass the course, candidates must attend all course hours, be able to demonstrate first aid knowledge and successfully complete the final practical assessment.

Validity & Renewal

The RLSS UK Qualifications Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (FAW) is valid for 3 years. In order to re-qualify, candidates must complete a 2 day renewal course before the expiry date printed on their certificate.

Important Information

Please be aware that attending a First Aid course does not guarantee you a qualification; this will be dependant on the performance and the abilities of the candidate during the final theory and practical assessments.
